Eliza Gleason

Page history last edited by kweibel2@... 13 years, 7 months ago

Dr. Eliza Atkins Gleason died recently at age 100. The link to her obituary is below. She was the first African American librarian to receive a PhD and founded the library education program at Atlanta University. Dr. Gleason was one of the librarians featured in the Wisconsin Women Library Workers post card series published in cooperation with the Helena Victoria Press. I was not involved with that project but I hope that someone who was will add to this page. Why was Dr. Gleason selected? Who contacted her for permission to use her photo? How did she feel about being included in the project? Also if anyone has one of the Gleason postcards and can scan it so it can be added to this page that would be great.
